August 2010, Genesis Bible Church
This coming Sunday, August 15, will be an exciting day as we wrap up our study in Jonah, and prepare to embark on a sermon series through Amos beginning on Aug 22. Also this Sunday, we have our “Changing Concept of Church” forum in the evening.
Below, in “Fall Events,” we have provided a list of major activities through the end of the year so that you can plan accordingly.
The Changing Concept of Church
Our next Contemporary Concerns Series forum, called “The Changing Concept of Church,” will be this Sunday evening, August 15, at 6:00 pm. We will have a presentation by Dennis, a panel discussion and time for questions, followed by a reception. Childcare up to age 10 is available. Please tell your friends and relatives about this forum, as we believe it is an important topic for Christians to be thinking through.
Events like this go more smoothly when there are many people helping with the details. Here are some ways in which you can help us prepare for this event:
Ø If you would like to help provide food for the reception, please contact Beverly Klintz (office@genesisbiblechurch.com).
Ø We would like to have five or six people who can stay after service on Sunday morning for 15 minutes and help us set up chairs and tables in the chapel for the reception in the evening.
Ø If you are willing to be a standby child care helper (for ages 0 to 10) please contact Matt (mattkasper@bellsouth.net).
New Sunday Morning Adult Bible Studies
Our new Sunday morning Bible studies for August – September have begun! Come join us at 9:00 every Sunday morning for coffee, fellowship and for time to learn and grow together in God’s Word. Our current classes include:
Ü “Enriching Your Prayer Life,” A Ladies Class with Joanne Perry
Ü “An Exposition Through Genesis, Part II,” with Kevin Bacon and Terry Sparks
Ü “Answering Objections to Christianity,” with Matt Kasper and Joe Crum
Amos – God’s Prophet to Israel in Times of Prosperity
On Aug 22, I will begin an eight week sermon series on Amos, the 8th century prophet God sent from Judah to Israel to challenge her about spiritual apathy and indifference in a period of great material success. The relevance will become obvious as Amos deals not just with heartless worship but also with greed, materialism and social and political injustice when God is left out of contemporary society. Don't miss the pointed message for the Church today.

Tent Revival Service and Indoor Picnic
On Sunday, August 22, we will have a tent revival meeting and an indoor picnic in the fellowship hall. “Threads of Hope” the gospel bluegrass group will be our guest musicians that day. During the fellowship meal after the service we will hear from John and Marie-C Skiotis about their ministry in London. Genesis will provide baked and fried chicken and there will be a sign-up sheet at the welcome desk for you to record what side dish you wish to bring. We look forward to a great day of fellowship and encouragement!
Third Thursdays – Evangelism Outings For the Fall
We are going to restart our evangelism outings on the Third Thursday of every month, starting August 19 at 6:30 pm. Other dates include Sept 16, Oct 21, Nov 18, and Dec 16. We will meet for prayer and then go out and try to encourage evangelistic conversations with people at different locations. We will target outdoor locations as weather allows and go to indoor locations if it is cold or rainy. Thanks for participating in these efforts to reach out into the community. “I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ” (Philemon 1:6).
Ladies Precept Class Sermon on the Mount
The Ladies Precept class, led by Janie Spivey, will begin to study the Sermon on the Mount on Tuesday, September 14 starting at 6:30 pm. The study is called “How Can I Be Blessed?” Faith that does not compromise is promised a reward in the world to come, and also a life free from anxiety in this world. Get a deeper understanding of the fruit and security that come with righteousness in the life of a true believer. You'll never look at the Beatitudes the same way again! The DVD clips that we will watch for this study include teachings on-location in Israel. Please contact Beverly Klintz (office@genesisbiblechurch.com) for questions or to order a book.
VBS Pictures

Genesis Journey in the Fall
Genesis Journey is gearing up for a great Fall of fun, learning, service and growth. We are excited to have eight to ten 4th-12th graders who regularly participate with us when we meet every other Sunday morning. We are continuing our study through “Wholly Holy” and we are currently in a lesson about “Separation to the Lord.” Future meeting dates include Aug 22, Sept 5 & 19, and Oct 3.
Laugh Your Way to A Better Marriage
Ed & Ginny Scruggs and Matt & Martha Kasper are co-leading a study about marriage that will meet twice a month on Sunday evenings, starting August 29. The material is a book and workbook by Mark Gungor called “Laugh Your Way to A Better Marriage.” We will meet on the following dates: Aug 29, Sept 12 & 19, Oct 3, Oct 17, Oct 31, Nov 14, Nov 21, Dec 5, Dec 19, Jan 9, Jan 23, Feb 6. We are asking couples who participate to commit to attend at least 10 of these 12 sessions in order to maximize the benefit of the study for them.
We will meet from 7:00 – 8:30 PM and our evenings will include watching DVD clips, discussion, Bible study, and dessert. Childcare will not be provided.
